The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada have issued numerous food and consumer product recalls and advisories recently including for Stanley travel mugs, a toddler kitchen helper sold on Amazon, viral chocolate bar sold at Showcase, children’s pajamas, apricot kernels over cyanide poisoning risk, candles and more.

Stanley-branded Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs recalled due to burn hazard

Stanley-branded Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs have been recalled due to a burn hazard.

Health Canada posted a recall notice about the product recall today.

“Immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Stanley for a free product replacement lid,” the recall notice states.

Granola bars sold in Canada at Costco, Metro, Food Basics, Sobeys, and more, recalled due to ‘potential safety hazard’

Various MadeGood granola bars have been voluntary recalled as “a precautionary measure due to a potential safety hazard” as they may contain “a piece of metal.” The company issued this voluntary recall.

MadeGood explained in a public statement on its website that there is a “very small risk” some of the granola bar products made between January and November may contain a piece of metal.

Maison Lavande candles in a ceramic container recalled due to fire hazard

This voluntary recall involves Maison Lavande brand candles sold in a ceramic container. Health Canada issued a recall notice for the candles on Dec. 11. 

“Immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Maison Lavande for a refund,” Health Canada tells consumers.

The company reported that 12,192 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between May 1, 2024 and November 2024.

The recall notice says candle flames can reach abnormally high levels, which can lead to fire, property damage and personal injury. As of Dec. 11, the company has received one report of an abnormally high flame in Canada, with no damage or injury.

In a recall notice issued on Dec. 11, the CFIA warned consumers not to consume the recalled product as it contains excessive amygdalin which may cause acute cyanide poisoning.

Petidoux Celebration Girl’s Summer Pajama Sets recalled due to flammability hazard

This recall involves Petidoux’s short sleeve and shorts children’s pajama set, advertised as “Celebration Girl’s Summer Pajamas.” The 100-per-cent cotton pajama top and bottom are white with an all-over firework print in the colours red, white and blue. The pajama sets were sold in sizes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12.

The recalled pajamas don’t comply with the flammability requirements for children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children.

The Health Canada recall notice published on Dec. 11 says loose-fitting children’s sleepwear can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more readily than tight-fitting sleepwear, and once ignited will burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child’s body.

As of Dec. 3, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. The affected products were sold from August 2021 to August 2024.

Wild Republic Pocketkins-ECO Brown Bear Plush Toy recalled due to choking hazard

This voluntary recall involves the Wild Republic Pocketkins – ECO Brown Bear Plush Toy. The item number 27754 Lot A4 is located on a sewn-in label behind the orange Wild Republic tag.

The company reported that 4,017 units of the affected products were distributed to retailers in Canada between January 2024 and November 2024.

Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program determined the hard nose on some of these plush toys may detach, posing a choking risk to young children.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Wild Republic Pocketkins – ECO brown Bear Plush Toy, dispose of the product and contact Wild Republic for a refund or replacement. This product was sold on Amazon.ca.

“Do not consume, use, sell, serve or distribute recalled products,” the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said in its recall notice posted on Dec. 9. The recalling firm is listed as Palm Bites Canada.

Health Canada warns car seat for infants and toddlers, sold on Amazon, may pose a risk of injury

Health Canada issued a consumer advisory for a car seat available on Amazon.ca on Dec. 9.

This alert involves generic baby car seats for infants and toddlers, with adjustable headrest and shoulder straps sold under the following Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN): B0D29WX2MW.

The products were sold online by various sellers on Amazon.ca and may have also been sold through other online marketplaces.

Health Canada has determined that the use of these restraints in a motor vehicle could increase the risk of injury in the event of a collision.

These products don’t display Transport Canada’s National Safety Mark and therefore have not been certified to meet the safety requirements of the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations.

The use of these restraints in a motor vehicle would be considered illegal under provincial and territorial highway regulations.

Qaba Toddler Kitchen Helper 2 Step Stool recalled due to entrapment hazard

This recall involves the Qaba Toddler Kitchen Helper 2 Step Stool with model number 312-050WT. The model number can be found on the outside packaging of the product.

The Health Canada recall notice posted on Dec. 6 explains the space between the bars on the back of the step stool pose an entrapment hazard, where a child’s head can get stuck.

The company reported that 3008 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between July 2021 and October 2024.

As of Dec. 3, the company has received one report of a child’s head becoming entrapped in the bars of the product in Canada.

The product was also sold through Amazon Canada.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Qaba Toddler Kitchen Helper 2 Step Stool and contact Aosom Canada for instructions on how to correct the product for continued use.

Adult portable bed rails recalled due to entrapment and asphyxia hazards

This recall involves three models of Medical King Bed Assist Rail adult portable bed rails. The bed rails were sold exclusively on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca.

When the recalled bed rails are attached to an adult’s bed, users can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress, according to the Health Canada recall notice posted on Dec. 11.







Bed rails recalled

Three models of Medical King Bed Assist Rail adult portable bed rails have been recalled.




“This poses a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation,” the recall notice warns.

As of Dec. 6, 2024, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. The company reported that 2,842 units of the affected products were sold in Canada from January 2020 to March 2024.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bed rails and contact Medical King for a free repair kit or a replacement bed rail, depending on the model.







Bed rail recall

Three models of Medical King Bed Assist Rail adult portable bed rails have been recalled.




Solvable Low Odour Paint Cleaner and Thinner products recalled due to improper labelling

This recall involves certain Solvable low odour paint cleaner and thinner products (3.78 L, 53-314V) with batch numbers M24302, M24289, M24281, M24272, M24264. The affected products have the erroneous label shown in the photo below. The batch numbers are located on the upper right side on the back of the package.

The Health Canada recall notice dated Dec. 12 says the recalled products have been mislabelled with U.S. versions of the product label instead of the correct Canadian labels.

As a result, the recalled products do not have the proper consumer chemical labelling as required by the Consumer Chemical and Containers Regulations, 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

“The lack of appropriate labelling information could result in unintentional exposure to the products and lead to serious illness or injury,” the recall notice reads.

As of Dec. 3 the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. 

The company reported that 7,524 units of the affected products were sold in Canada from September 2024 to November 2024.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to Recochem Inc. for a refund.







Paint cleaner and thinner

Solvable Low Odour Paint Cleaner and Thinner recalled due to improper labelling.
