Cathay Pacific proudly unveils its latest inflight safety video, guiding passengers through crucial safety procedures set against the vibrant and dynamic scenes of Hong Kong.

Showcasing the energetic and colorful essence of the airline’s home city, the video was crafted in partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and the Civil Aviation Department (CAD). This collaboration ensures the video not only adheres to all safety protocols but also educates passengers in an engaging and informative manner.

Cathay Pacific, deeply connected to Hong Kong, aims to highlight the city as a premier travel destination and gateway for global travelers. The safety instructions in the video are seamlessly blended with the unique allure of Hong Kong, featuring the city’s iconic landmarks, bustling streets, world-class arts and cultural spots, and beautiful natural landscapes.

Filmed at various locations around Hong Kong, the video transports viewers to a dai pai dong, a traditional local eatery, for the “no smoking” message, and then to an exciting dragon boat race for the life jacket demonstration. Shek O Beach serves as the backdrop for emergency and pre-takeoff procedures. Other featured locations include the shopping haven of Causeway Bay, the Xiqu Centre at the West Kowloon Cultural District, the iconic Peak Tram, the historic Tin Hau Temple in Yau Ma Tei, and the serene Clearwater Bay Country Park, all culminating in a visually captivating experience for passengers.

To celebrate the video’s launch, Cathay Pacific hosted a preview event on 26 July at The Sky Lounge, The Upper House. The event was led by Cathay’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, and attended by notable guests including Hong Kong Tourism Board Executive Director Dane Cheng and Commissioner for Tourism Vivian Sum.

Cathay Pacific’s Lavinia Lau said: “At Cathay Pacific, safety has always been at the heart of everything we do, and this new video embodies our commitment to keeping our customers informed and prepared, while fostering our Move Beyond spirit. We wanted to put our own spin on the video and create something truly memorable that resonates with our global audience and showcases the true essence of our home city on the move. We are deeply appreciative of the support from HKTB and CAD, which has allowed us to weave together inflight safety information and the vibrant offerings of Hong Kong in a gripping video.”

Hong Kong Tourism Board’s Dane Cheng expressed his delight in the partnership: “HKTB and Cathay Pacific have been long-time partners in promoting Hong Kong’s tourism excellence to visitors worldwide. We are excited to join hands to showcase Hong Kong’s vibrant, diverse and unique east-meets-west experiences through this video, which reaches millions of travellers from all around the world every year. I believe the creative presentation will inspire visitors to submerge themselves in all that Hong Kong has to offer firsthand and enjoy every moment here.”

Cathay Pacific will begin phasing in a fresh inflight safety video starting on August 1, 2024, replacing the one that has been in use for over seven years.

Cathay Pacific, which became the first airline in Asia to join the IATA Turbulence Aware Platform in 2023, is dedicated to enhancing safety and operational standards to provide an improved flying experience for its passengers.
