‘Best’ travel hack for cheaper airport food and drink
A blogger has shared her ‘number one’ travel hack that saves money on food and drink at the airport – and people are shocked they’ve never thought of it before
A holidaymaker has revealed her top travel hack, leaving people amazed they hadn’t thought of it sooner. Ella Marie (@ellamariegill), a content creator with 120,000 followers on TikTok, revealed her ‘number one’ travel tip in a recent video. Praising the idea, Ella suggested she had ‘the BEST hack for airports to save money + have the best time.’
She told viewers: “My number one travel hack that most people don’t know about is to book an airport lounge. They are normally about £20, and all your food, all your drink and even alcohol is included for literally cheaper than the price of one meal at the airport.”
Ella added: “I’m currently at Oslo airport, so let’s go and see what the lounge is like here. We have made it to the lounge. I’m very excited to see what this one’s like. This one looks very nice. Start by getting a coffee, always get a cappuccino. This is the food selection, gonna get a bit of everything, I think.
“Get some pasta and get some meatballs, spicy tuna, my favourite, which is olives.” Showcasing her meal, the blogger said: “This actually looks really good. And like I said, all alcohol is included. So they’ve got white wine, red wine, beer. They’ve even got prosecco. I’m gonna do a little prosecco.”
“They’ve got a whole selection of bread, crackers, butters, and even a little cake section,” Ella praised. “Wow. It’s low-key my dream selection of food. Actually pretty good. Plate is finished. I’ve seen that they have like a Pepsi Max refill machine, so I’m gonna go get one of those. Jack got a mini beer and I got another little prosecco.”
Ending her post, Ella said: “Jack is currently on his fourth plate, so he’s definitely getting his money’s worth. I’m gonna get some more food. I got one more plate. I got quite a lot of meatballs, a little bit of pasta, and a lot of olives. It’s actually such a good combination.
“If we had bought everything that we’ve consumed so far, it would have come to way more than £20 a person. So this is such good value for money. I highly recommend.” One viewer who loved the tip said: “I can’t believe I’ve actually never done this.” Ella replied: “It’s the best idea ever.”
The idea was just as popular with viewers when it was highlighted by travel creator @chloelawfordtravels, reports the Express. Chloe said: “An airport lounge would typically cost you between £30 to 45 per person.
“But there is a whole host of reasons why we love to use airport lounges, and the main one is the food and drink. If you’re gonna get a meal and a pint out in the main area, it’s gonna set you back £25 to £30 anyway, so why not spend that and go to a lounge?
“You get unlimited breakfast buffet, unlimited coffees, juice, everything you need. I always make the most of this. It’s like three or four rounds of breakfast, even breakfast dessert. Plus there’s a bar if you wanna get drinks. I mean, it’s usually before 7:00am, but you do you. Also, it’s just so nice to just sit in a nice, quiet area and wait for your flight.”
The video received over 20,000 views and more than 600 comments from social media users. Replying to Chloe’s video, someone agreed: “For a long haul flight agreed worth every penny and also a nice extra as part of your holiday.” A different comment read: “Family of 5 and if there’s a lounge we are in it. Love an airport lounge.”
